Installing Your Think Timber™ Benchtop

modular timber benchtop

Think Timber™ benchtops are crafted from solid hardwood and designed to be straightforward to install, making them suitable for confident DIYers as well as professional installers. With a few simple preparation steps, your benchtop can be fitted smoothly and enjoyed for many years.

Before installation, store your benchtop indoors in a dry, stable space and allow it to acclimatise to room temperature for at least 24 hours. Always handle panels upright to prevent bending or damage, and make sure all cabinets are securely installed, level, and provide adequate perimeter support, especially across wider spans or areas with overhangs.

DIY modular panels arrive with a protective paraffin wax coating that needs to be lightly sanded off prior to sealing. Once prepared, seal all faces and edges using Cabot’s Benchtop Clear to protect the timber from moisture and natural movement. Custom-made benchtops are supplied pre-sealed from the factory, so any on-site work such as cut-outs for sinks or cooktops simply requires sealing of the exposed edges once trimming is complete.

During installation, accurate measuring and templating ensures clean cut-outs and proper fitting. Joins are pre-machined and secured using benchtop bolts and silicone adhesive, creating strong, seamless connections while still allowing the timber to naturally expand and contract over time.

With these clear steps, installing your Think Timber™ benchtop is a manageable, well-supported process that delivers a beautiful, long-lasting result.
